Remember all summer long pets need:
1. Ample fresh water
2. Shade from the sun and protection from
the wind.
3. Tick, flea, and other parasite control.
4. To never be left in the car no matter
the temperature outside.
Now that your pets are more active remember
to:
1. Check their ears and between their toes
after swimming, running or hiking for any foreign material.
2. Watch pink nosed and white eared animals
when they are in the sun for signs of sunburn. Child sunscreen can be
used to protect their delicate skin.
3. Watch dogs with fresh, short haircuts
for any sign of sunburn on the newly exposed skin.
4. Watch for any problems with animals
walking on the hot pavement. Their feet may be sensitive early in the
summer and get burned or cut.
5. If your animals are riding in a car
or truck, be sure to secure them properly to prevent them from falling
or jumping out and hurting themselves.
6. Use life jackets for animals unsure
or new around water, or those that aren't the best swimmers.
7. Make sure your pet is properly vaccinated
and keep them on leashes. More animals out and about for you and your
pet to come in contact with.
8. Keep an eye out for wildlife. Run-ins
with porcupines, skunks and raccoons can be painful for your pet and you.
9. Watch for mosquitoes, your pets are
as susceptible to bites as you are!
10. For Horse owners, remember to vaccinate
your horses for West Nile sooner rather than later.
Enjoy Your Summer!
